Meet Erica Metcalfe! In our third edition of Avant Garde Theatre of Dance's Center Stage, we present to you Miss Erica Metcalfe. Erica is one of our first Apprentices to join our Competitive Program here at Avant Garde Theatre of Dance. She is currently in the fifth grade and 10 years old. Erica has 2 brothers and a Chihuahua puppy named Scooter that she loves. She takes Intermediate Ballet twice per week, then Contemporary and Jazz once per week. "Erica is extremely intelligent, naturally gifted, and has great natural flexibility. She always comes into class ready to work and retains all of the information given to her by her instructors," says Miss Sarah. Meet Lynny Cheshire! In our second edition of Avant Garde Theatre of Dance's Center Stage, we present to you Miss Lynny Cheshire. Lynny is a competitive dancer in the Apprentice Program here at Avant Garde Theatre of Dance. This fourth grader is 9 years old and a very motivated and hard worker. She currently takes Intermediate Ballet 2 days per week, Intermediate Contemporary 1 day, and Intermediate Jazz 1 day per week.  "She's a beautiful young dancer, who is very focused and talented," says Miss Sarah. Lynny has a Great Dane named Raven that she loves to play with. When asked what her favorite class was at Avant Garde Theatre of Dance, she said, "That's hard, I can't pick just one!" We had to ask Lynny, "What is it about Avant Garde that you love?" She replied, "I love Miss Sarah and Miss Sydney. Meet Jensen Jeffers! The first edition of our new series, Center Stage, features one of our talented Apprentices, Miss Jensen Jeffers. Jensen is a member of the Apprentice Competitive Team here at Avant Garde Theatre of Dance. She is 6 years old and is so talented, she was graduated into the Intermediate level 6 months early. She currently takes Intermediate Ballet 3 days per week, Intermediate Contemporary 1 day, Intermediate Jazz 1 day, and Intermediate Acrobatics 1 day.  "She's an extremely hard worker with a very positive attitude," says Miss Sarah. Miss Jensen is in first grade. She loves her "tiny wiener dog," Dakota and when asked what her favorite class at Avant Garde was, she responded "Jazz! I love Miss Sydney!" We asked Miss Jensen, what is it about Avant Garde that you love so much? She immediately responded, "I love my dance school because I love to dance all kinds of dances!" Meet the Gutierrez family!  Mom, Claudia, shuffles her two girls (oldest Debhani and youngest Zoe) here 3 nights a week to attend ballet classes. To truly understand what makes this family so special, you would need to know that they live in North Irving!  With an hour and half commute each way, there are nights when they may not get home until 11pm or later – but they believe it’s a small price to pay in exchange for the high-quality instruction they are receiving. Having tried a couple local studios in Irving, Claudia and her girls weren’t quite satisfied. Claudia, a single mom and Home Health nurse, wouldn’t settle for less and – after learning about Avant Garde – she was determined to figure out a way to make it work.
